Meet the Pediatrician

Dr Denise Wolken

Denise Wolken, M.D. FAAP

Denise Wolken MD grew up in Downstate, New York and attended Stony Brook University on Long Island where she graduated Cum Laude with a degree in biochemistry. She moved to Upstate NY in 1985 to attend medical school and complete her pediatric residency at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. She fell in love with the people and the beauty of Central New York, and she has been a Central New Yorker ever since.

After completing her pediatric residency, she joined a local pediatric group practice. She valued working with her colleagues and learned a lot about pediatrics. After 25 years in this larger group practice, she yearned for the opportunity to create a smaller, more personalized environment where she could get to know her patients and families. She also wanted to integrate more technology into the medical care she provides. In January 2018, she started her solo practice, Denise Wolken MD Pediatrics. And yes, her duck on her stethoscope moved with her and became the center of her new office logo.

Dr. Wolken loves working with children of all ages, whether it is for check-ups, acute illnesses, or complex chronic problems. She is also a forever learner and enjoys learning from colleagues, patients, and their families about new ways to improve medical care. She maintains her Board Certification in Pediatrics and attends national conferences in Pediatrics.  Dr. Wolken has been able to integrate a pediatric EMR system into her practice and is excited about connecting with patients through telemedicine visits and the patient portal message center. The thing she most enjoys is the relationships she gets to develop with her patients and their families.

In her spare time, Dr. Wolken enjoys spending time with her husband, Randy Wolken, and their three now-grown daughters Annemarie, Christina, and Rebecca. She loves to sing and you may hear her humming around the office, with the Gospel Choir at All Saints Church in Syracuse or during concerts with the Syracuse Pops Chorus.  She also loves to travel.

Dr. Wolken is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP)
